The Safababy Sleeper Baby Sleep Positioner does exactly that, it helps to maintain a correct and safe baby sleeping position.
The problem is that new born babies, are of course very small. Typically weighing between 5 and 9 pounds. At this size and weight it is usually advisable to use traditional sheets and blankets rather than ‘sleeping bag’ style bedding.
To a small baby a cot or cot bed is quite large. If you use the full area of the cot there is the possibility that baby could wriggle down the mattress, under the covers and become frightened, hot or even suffocate under the covers. For this reason health officials always promote and recommend the ‘feet to foot’ sleeping position. This means that you make make up just the bottom section of the cot with baby’s feet near to the foot of the bed. This means that the footboard stops baby from wriggling down any further under the covers. The problem with this is that baby could, instead, wriggle up the cot towards the head end and right out from under the covers, increasing the risk of baby becoming too cold during the night.
The Safababy Sleeper Baby Sleep Positioner is a cot divider. You place it part way down the cot, leaving just enough room between the headboard and the baby sleep positioner for baby to sleep comfortably under the covers. They can’t wriggle down or up any further, so are comfortable positioned in safety. As they grow you can move the baby sleep positioned further down the bed until they no longer need it, usually once they can sit unaided.
It is held in place by a security strap that passes underneath the mattress and twist grips that pass between the bars of the cot to ensure that it stays firmly in place.
The Safababy Baby Sleep Positioner is also very popular for use with twins. They can share a cot or cot bed without encroaching on each others space. Just divide the cot in two at the centre and make each side up as a separate sleeping area for each twin.
The Safababy sleeper Baby Sleep Positioner holds the bedding firmly in place, preventing baby from getting too hot or too cold by creating a false foot to the cot and should be used with traditional baby blankets. You can then add or remove layers in line with the room temperature.
Please note that this product is designed to help keep baby in the recommended 'feet to foot' sleeping position, it is not a baby sleeping positioner to keep babies on their backs.
