Waterproof Sheets have moved on a long way from the originals, Once they were literally a plastic or rubber sheet that you placed on your mattress with a normal sheet over the top. The problem with these was that they would make you hot and sweaty and were as noisy as sleeping on a pile of crisp packets. However we often still refer to them as waterproof sheets because this is what they do.
Our new version of these is however very different, for a start they come in a variety of types. The entry level range is called Snugnights Care, these are in a fitted sheet style with an polyester/cotton upper surface with a soft waterproof pvc backing. They can be machine washed and even tumble dried. Next up from these is Allergon, the idea is the same but this time the upper surface is a more absorbent cotton terry and the backing is polyurethane. This is where the real difference lies. Polyurethane is both breathable and waterproof (much like our own skin). This means that fluids cannot pass through yet you don’t get hot and sweaty, as an added bonus you cannot hear or feel it, its virtually undetectable in use.
