Feel the luxury of a ‘Soft as Down’ Luxury Microfibre Duvet

June 17th, 2009
Unlike a standard duvet a microfibre duvet is incredibly soft to the touch, Microfibre is used as it mimics the feel and touch of goose down, but at a much more affordable price. An equivalent goose down duvet can cost 10 times as much.
Microfibre as its name suggests is a very fine and soft man made fibre, it drapes incredibly well and has superb insulating properties, the fibre used in a standard duvet is usually referred to as hollowfibre which is thicker and coarser than microfibre.
As you can see from the images when you click on the link below the result is a beautuiful bright duvet that is thick and luxuriant yet smooth and soft to the touch, it seems almost a shame to hide it inside a duvet cover.
Be aware that some duvets that are referred to as microfibre only actually use a cover made from microfibre, the filling is often standard hollowfibre which will give you none of the benefits of the ’soft as down’ microfibre filling. This one has a soft 230 thread count dust mite proof microfibre cover with a genuine 100% microfibre filling.
Superb luxury at a realistic price.
Washable as synthetics

All Seasons Goose Down Duvet

May 21st, 2009

An all seasons goose down duvet provides you with a duvet that as the name suggests, you can use throughout the whole year. It is essentially two duvets that you use fastened together in the colder months. These two duvets are of different tog values ( a tog value is the measure of warmth that the duvet provided). When it is not as cold and we are into spring or autumn you remove the lighter duvet just leaving the remaining duvet in place. When we then get to the warmer months you swap them over and just make use of the lighter of the two duvets. A great solution to year round sleeping comfort.

We have specially selected the finest all seasons goose down duvet that we could find to offer to our customers. This is the Nimbus All Seasons Duvet System, this comprises of a lightweight 4.5 tog summer duvet plus a spring/autumn 9.0 tog duvet. In the winter simply fasten them together to create one cosy 13.5 tog duvet.

The Nimbus is filled with light New Goose Down held in place with a 100% cotton down proof cover. Our buyers tested every All Seasons Goose Down Duvet that they could from all over the world before deciding that the Nimbus offerred the best combination of duvets, with the best quality construction and of course offerring excellent value for money.

Jersey Cotton Bed Linen

May 21st, 2009

Jersey Cotton Bed Linen has different qualities to standard cotton bed linen. Cotton itself is of course soft to the touch and warm in winter, cool in summer, it is also hard wearing. Cotton is also preferable to a polyester cotton mix but often people are not aware of what the term Jersey actally means.

To explain this we need to understand how sheets are usually made. Whether 100% cotton or a polyester cotton mix, most sheets are a woven product, as we might remember from our schooldays weaving has a warp and a weft these are threads that go from top to bottom and from side to side. Weaving is one of the standard methods used to manufacture fabrics. One problem with a woven product is that it doesn’t stretch easily, you can usually get it to stretch in one direction but not the other.

A jersey product is different, it is not a woven item, jersey is a knitted product. They are knitted on large machines, the fabric is then made into the sheets. It’s still cotton but because it is knitted it can stretch in all directions.

This has an obvious advantage when used for bedding, because it is much more stretchy you can lie on it and turn over and the fabric just moves with you. This means that there is less chance of the sides popping off during the night.

Jersey Cotton Bed Linen is absolutely ideal for use with memory foam mattresses because as the mattress moulds itself to your shape, the sheet moulds with it, meaning that you still benefit from all the advantages that made you buy the memory foam mattress without your bedding compromising the experience.

Brinkhaus Duvets

May 21st, 2009

Brinkhaus Duvets must be the finest duvets available in the world.

One of the main reasons for this is that down is usually collected as a by product of the food industry, therefore the down is collected all year round, leading to variables in its quality. However, unlike most other duvet manufacturers Brinkhaus actually farm their own geese to ensure that the down is only collected when it is at the point when it is at its most efficient, when it is at its peak of thermal efficiency, softness and overall performance.

This means that Brinkhaus down is exceptionally light yet incredibly warm.

The Brinkhaus Saphire duvet is our particular favourite, it has an intricate handmade construction that holds the down in place throughout ensuring that their are no cold spots, the outer cover is a luxurious 100% cotton fabric and truly deserves its place as the finest hungarian goose down duvet in the world.

An absolute treat that will last for years and well worth the investment yet not as expensive as you might think, go on give yourself a treat and a great talking point when friends and family stay over.

Visco Elastic Memory Foam Mattress

May 21st, 2009

Visco elastic memory foam mattress is a bit of a mouthful to say, so usually it is just shortened to ‘memory foam mattress’.

Memory foam has amazing properties that make it perfect for use on a mattress, the reason being that it moulds itself to the shape of your body providing even support all over. This is important when you compare it to a traditional mattress with springs.

The problem with springs is that there are always some parts of your body that are applying more weight and pressure to the springs than other parts, this means that these parts of your body that then are taking the weight and pressure of other parts which can lead to aches and pains, the parts of your body where the pressure is not applied to are left suspended without proper support again leading to aches and pains.

Memory foam solves these issues and provides you with the correct support to your entire body.
There are however good memory foam mattresses and not so good ones, the difference is down to things such as the density of the foam used and the amount of foam used. There are also some mattresses that are sold as if they are memory foam but are not. If it is not genuine memory foam then you will not get the same benefits. As a rule of thumb, if it looks to be very cheap then there is usually a reason. That is not to say that you need to spend a fortune on a memory foam mattress. You should be looking to spend the same as you would expect to spend on a good quality sprung mattress but of course with all the benefits of the memory foam and none of the disadvantages of springs.

As a general guideline you should avoid anything under £200 but equally anything over £1000 is probably unneccesary.

Foam density is important in choosing your memory foam mattress, density is usually referred to by a number. The ideal density is between 55 and 70, anything below 55 is not going to have enough support, anything over 70 could be too firm.

A memory foam mattress cannot be made entirely of memory foam, it needs a lower level of support foam.

All of our memory foam mattresses are manufactured in the UK to the highest of standards, we have them in all popular sizes and split them in to 3 models to suit the weight of the user, again this is important to ensure the correct combination of support foam and memory foam. Select the model that corresponds to the weight of the heaviest user (not the combined weight of both)

Depending on mattress size and model our memory foam mattresses range in price from £250.00 to £599.00 ensuring that you can purchase a high quality, correctly supporting mattress for a realistic price.

Mattress Pad

May 20th, 2009

We are often asked about and can see that people are often searching on Google and other search engines for a mattress pad. This always leads us to ask the question “What do you mean - a mattress pad?”, because it’s not immediately clear as to what is needed. Yes we can supply a ‘mattress pad’ and have several products available that might be what you are looking for, but we need to know a little more, what is it that you a trying to achieve?

If you want to improve and increase the comfort level of your mattress then that is one thing, there are several options in our range that will do this.

Sometimes a ‘mattress pad’ means a quilted mattress protector (we have several types of these), a quilted mattress protector actually only improves the comfort of your mattress by a small amount as its padding is not actually intended to do this, it is there to provide a padded surface that protects the mattress from wear and tear. If this is what was meant to achieve by the term ‘mattress pad’ then great, its a quilted mattress protector that you really need.

If however it is your comfort that you are looking to improve then you need something slightly different, you need something that has more padding than a quilted mattress protector, what you need is actually a mattress reviver or mattress topper.

A mattress reviver on first inspection looks very similar to a quilted mattress protector, the only difference being that its thicker. A mattress reviver does what it says, it revives the qualities of an older mattress, maybe you can feel the springs or its a bit lumpy and bumpy. The mattress reviver irons out and pads out these imperfections to give you a more comfortable sleeping area.

A mattress topper takes the idea to the next level, because a topper is a much thicker product and in appearance is similar to putting a new mini mattress on top of your current mattress. They can be anything from 1 inch (25mm)  to 3 inches (75mm) in depth.

A mattress topper usually comes in one of two types, either a feather and down filled topper or one made from memory foam. Both serve a similar purpose and greatly improve the comfort of your mattress, I prefer the memory foam mattress topper, they really are great to sleep on, but it is down (excuse the pun) to personal preference.

Finally some people searching for a ‘mattress pad’ are actually looking for an absorbent bed pad that sits on the mattress and is used to assist with continence issues, again not a problem we have these as well.

So whichever ‘mattress pad’ you are looking for, we have it. We might just have to ask a few more questions to make sure we provide you with the right one.

Cat Nets for Cots

May 20th, 2009

Although it is generally agreed that the idea of a cat climbing in to a baby’s cot and smothering the child is one of those ‘old wives’ tales, there are still plenty of good reasons to keep the cat out of the cot.

The first issue relates to common sense safety, Cats do like to find somewhere warm and comfortable to sleep and to them a cot is probably ideal, it’s seen as safe, warm and cosy and as another member of the family sleeps in there then why not them. The cat probably has no intention of causing harm to the baby but there is always the issue of unintentional harm. The baby could accidentally startle the cat causing the cat to scratch almost as  a reflex action.

We have also all seen cats doing their kneading/paddling action on a soft surface, this is actually a sign of contentment and is an action they performed on their mothers when wanting milk. They are showing you that they are happy and comfortable but, this action is usually accompanied by an opening and closing of their claws, no intentional harm intended but we would not want them to do this in the cot when the baby is there.

The next issue relates to hygiene, your cat might use a litter tray or go outside but we certainly would not want them to then jump up in to a nice clean cot and to potentially contaminate the area.

Finally we come to the issue of fleas, cats do get them and we would not want our children sharing their cot with cat fleas.

For these reasons cats should always be discouraged from getting into baby’s cot regardless of how docile and affectionate they are. Snugnights have cot cat nets available in cot and cot bed sizes that fit over the cot yet let plenty of air through, these will stop the cat from gaining access and discourage it from trying.

Anti Allergy Bedding

May 18th, 2009

Anti Allergy Bedding can be a neccessity to many, one of the main reasons for this is that modern homes actually encourage dust mites. Our homes are often sealed tight with double glazing, insulation and draught excluding devices. All these things are great for us as they improve our comfort and keep us warm, but the problem is that dust mites enjoy these conditions as well.

Dust mites live in all of our homes regardless of cleanliness and the place that they really love the most is our mattress. Here they can find everything that they need to live and to multiply. A mattress can actually have several million of these tiny creatures living within it. Some people are not at all concerned by this fact but many of us find the idea at the very least unpleasant. Then there are a growing number of us that are allergic to these mites (its actually their waste products that we are allergic to!).

If you sometimes wake up with reddened itchy eyes or with a cough or runny nose that was not there before then there is a very good chance that you are allergic to them as well.

Anti allergy bedding is a broad term used to describe bedding products that are specifically designed to deal with this tiny pest. Essentially you need to either buy bedding that has been specially treated with chemicals to stop the mite from moving in or alternatively to create a barrier between you and them. Or for a ‘belt and braces’ approach go for both.

Pilows and duvets can be purchased that have been treated with an anti bacterial agent, this as its name suggsts stops bacteria from growing within the item. Dust mites need this bacteria to survive as it is this that breaks down the tiny particles of skin that we shed at night. Once it is broken down by the bacteria they can feed on it.

The other way of dealing with the dust mite is to create a barrier between you and them, this barrier needs to stop moisture and skin particles from passing through to the mattress thus starving them out. The barrier therefore needs to be waterproof to function adequately.

Snugnights carries a range of both types of product which can be seen here Anti Allergy Bedding

Travel Cots for Babies

Travel Cots for Babies

Travel Cots for babies are an essential item on a new mums list of must haves.

When travelling with a little one there has to be somewhere for him or her to sleep, it is important for you as a parent to be happy and comfortable with this, if you have your own travel cot then YOU know where it has been and YOU know that it is a clean and safe place to put them in.

Yes a pram/pushchair can be used but there are many times when this just isn’t practical. if you can choose a travel cot that can be folded down and popped in to your case or bag then it can always be with you.

Think of the number of times and places that baby will need to sleep, it’s not just when you are on holiday either, its can also  be with you when you are visiting family and friends.

travel Cots for babies come in a range of styles and sizes, many are too big to fit inside your own case, but the pop up travel cot from Samsonite has its own carry case that is only 27cm in diameter and a couple of centimetres deep. This means that it can go inside your suitcase or bag, and when its needed it just pops out to create a safe, clean sleeping environment that only measures 88cm x 54cm. It has its own mattresspad and insect screen and is suitable from birth until baby can sit up unaided.
