Anti Allergy Bedding

Anti Allergy Bedding can be a neccessity to many, one of the main reasons for this is that modern homes actually encourage dust mites. Our homes are often sealed tight with double glazing, insulation and draught excluding devices. All these things are great for us as they improve our comfort and keep us warm, but the problem is that dust mites enjoy these conditions as well.

Dust mites live in all of our homes regardless of cleanliness and the place that they really love the most is our mattress. Here they can find everything that they need to live and to multiply. A mattress can actually have several million of these tiny creatures living within it. Some people are not at all concerned by this fact but many of us find the idea at the very least unpleasant. Then there are a growing number of us that are allergic to these mites (its actually their waste products that we are allergic to!).

If you sometimes wake up with reddened itchy eyes or with a cough or runny nose that was not there before then there is a very good chance that you are allergic to them as well.

Anti allergy bedding is a broad term used to describe bedding products that are specifically designed to deal with this tiny pest. Essentially you need to either buy bedding that has been specially treated with chemicals to stop the mite from moving in or alternatively to create a barrier between you and them. Or for a ‘belt and braces’ approach go for both.

Pilows and duvets can be purchased that have been treated with an anti bacterial agent, this as its name suggsts stops bacteria from growing within the item. Dust mites need this bacteria to survive as it is this that breaks down the tiny particles of skin that we shed at night. Once it is broken down by the bacteria they can feed on it.

The other way of dealing with the dust mite is to create a barrier between you and them, this barrier needs to stop moisture and skin particles from passing through to the mattress thus starving them out. The barrier therefore needs to be waterproof to function adequately.
