A baby’s flat head support pillows should be considered for use with all new born baby’s. The reason being that at this age the baby’s head has a relatively soft skull and bone structure that is still forming and growing. If you then combine this with the fact that a baby has no option but to lie on its back for long periods of time we can see that the opportunity for the skull to flatten at the point of pressure is a serious possibility.
Without treatment many cases of ‘flat head’ or ‘Positional Plagiocephaly do revert to a ‘normal’ shape naturally but with some treatment using a reshaping helmet may be required.
As they say ‘prevention is better than cure’ so we should take certain measures to try to avoid this happening at all. Of course its not at all practical to keep moving and repositioning baby to try to avoid this flattening, the best option is to invest in a Baby’s Flat Head Support Pillow, this pillow cradles the baby’s head in a hollowed out area of the pillow meaning that at no time is the head resting directly on a flat surface. Even the cot mattress can be firm enough to produce the flattening effect so the risk really isnt worth taking.
A Baby’s Flat Head Support Pillow also makes a great yet inexpensive gift for a mum to be.
