The SnugNights Cot Mattress Protector consists of an absorbent, soft 100% cotton terry toweling upper surface laminated to a very light, undetectable, breathable polyurethane membrane. This membrane is noiseless and does not cause the baby to overheat, Polyurethane is also completely inert, which means that it is completely free of and does not release any toxins and is therefore safe to use. All of our products have been awarded the prestigious European Oeko-Tex Standard 100 'products suitable for babies'. They are machine washable at high temperatures to destroy bacteria and dust mites and can be tumble dried if required.
Just as importantly these protectors provide a dust mite barrier between the mattress and the baby. Dust mites can colonise a mattress within a few months in our modern centrally heated homes, they are particularly keen on a mattress filled with man made products. These tiny creatures require moisture and a food source to survive. They live off tiny skin particles which have been broken down by bacteria. Using a SnugNights protector moisture and urine does not get to the mattress to produce the bacteria and neither do skin particles. It is very important to keep dust mites and their waste products away from our young ones as they are known to be associated with the onset of juvenile asthma and eczema. Of course no-one could recommend any form of chemical control when used close to a baby's airways so a barrier method is the safest option.
